Visual Studio Team Foundation Server 11 Developer Preview

Visual Studio Team Foundation Server 11 Developer Preview is a pre-release version of Team Foundation Server and should not be used in production scenarios. This release is designed to showcase updates and improvements made since Team Foundation Server 2010, and provides an opportunity for developers to use and provide feedback. In this blog entry, I will provide a step-by-step installation guidance of Visual Studio Team Foundation Server 11 Developer Preview.

System Requirements

In order to complete the installations you will need a machine that already has a supported operating system installed. The supported operating systems are Windows 7 (x86 and x64), Windows 8 (x86 and x64), Windows Server 2008 with Service Pack 2 (x64), Windows Server 2008 R2 (x64), and Windows 8 Server (x64). You also need the installation media for Visual Studio Team Foundation Server 11 Developer Preview. If you have a MSDN subscription, you can download the installation media for Visual Studio Team Foundation Server 11 Developer Preview.

Step 1: Installing Visual Studio Team Foundation Server 11 Developer Preview

1.       Double-click the default HTML application file. The Microsoft Visual Studio Team Foundation Server dialog box appears.

2.       In the Microsoft Visual Studio Team Foundation Server dialog box, click the Install Team Foundation Server hyperlink. The Team Foundation Server Setup dialog box appears.

3.       In the Team Foundation Server Setup dialog box, verify that the I accept the license terms for Team Foundation Server 11 check box is checked, and then click the Continue button.

4.       Click the Enable (Recommended) check box, and then click the Install Now button. The installation starts automatically.

5.       In the Restart Required dialog box, click the OK button to restart the machine.

6.       After restarting the machine, click the Close button. The Team Foundation Server Configuration Center dialog box appears.

 

Step 2: Configuring Visual Studio Team Foundation Server 11 Developer Preview

1.       After performing Step 6 in Demonstration 1, the Team Foundation Server Configuration Center dialog box appears. In the About this Wizard page, click Basic, and then click the Start Wizard button.

2.       In the Welcome to the Basic Configuration Wizard page, click the Next button.

3.       In the Select a SQL Server Instance for your Team Foundation Databases page, click the Next button.

4.       In the Confirm the Configuration Settings Before Proceeding page, click the Verify button.

5.       In the Readiness Checks Validate that Your System is Ready to Configure page, click the Configure button.

6.       In the Configuration Process page, wait for the configuration wizard to complete. The configuration wizard now performs a series of installations and configurations.

7.       In the Configuration Process page, verify that the operations Install IIS, Install Sql Express, Configuration Database, Creating Web Sites, Configuration Services, and Project Collection completed successfully, and then click the Next button.

8.       In the Review the Results page, verify that the Connection  Details section, and then click the Close button.
